Dhaka stock extends its upbeat vibe

Special Correspondent
DSEX, the key index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), extended its upbeat vibe, with buyer dominance witnessed right from the start of Wednesday's session as bargain hunters continued to take positions in lucrative issues in anticipation of a slight reversal from the market's prolonged bearish sentiment.
Meanwhile, market turnover also slightly increased by 6% to Tk4.7 billion as against Tk 4.4 billion in the previous session.
The key index DSEX (+0.44%) gained 22.73 points and closed at 5,170.06. The blue-chip index DS30 (+0.19%), the Shariah-based index DSES (+0.70%), and the large-cap index CDSET (+0.11%) closed at 1,914.23, 1,147.23, and 1,049.81 points, respectively. Most of the large-cap sectors posted positive performance on the day. 15 sectors out of 19 were the gainers, and 4 were on the losing side. Of the 395 scrips traded, 207 advanced, 129 declined, and 65 remained unchanged.
MIDLANDBNK topped the turnover chart. GIB was the top gainer, whereas SICL was the top loser. In the block market, shares of Tk18.3 crore were transacted, representing a turnover of 3.8%.
The SME index, DSMEX, decreased by 22.38 pts, and the market generated a Tk10 crore turnover, a 19% increase from the previous session.
According to the Royal Capital Financial Portal, ISLAMIBANK and SQUARPHARMA contributed the most to the gains and the losses of the DSEX index on the day, and bullish conditions prevailed in the market from the start.
In its daily market commentary, the EBL Securities said that the indices remained upbeat throughout the session, while the market recovery was aided by price appreciation in the majority of stocks.
Moreover, the latest easing of inflation and gradual drop in interest rates in Treasury auctions have somewhat renewed investor optimism for a potential market recovery.
The port city bourse, Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), also settled on green terrain. The Selective Categories' Index (CSCX) and All Share Price Index (CASPI) rose by 9.0 and 35.4 points, respectively.
