Taskin registers best ever T20 bowling record by Bangladeshi bowler

Fast bowler Taskin Ahmed registered third best bowling figure in recognized T20 cricket when he claimed seven wickets for just 19 in his team Durbar Rajshahi’s Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) match against Dhaka Capitals.

Only two bowlers – Malaysai’s Syrazul Idrus and Netherland’s Colin Ackerman—are ahead of Taskin. Both of the bowlers took seven wickets like Taskin but conceded less runs than him. While pacer Idrus gave away just eight runs in his T20 International match against China in 2023, Ackerman conceded 18 runs.

Off spinner Ackerman’s record came against in domestic T20 match like Taskin when he, playing for Leicestershire jolted Birmingham Bears with 7-18 in Vitality Blast T20 tournament in England.

The best bowling record between Test nations in T20 International was registered by Indian pacer Dipak Chahar when took six wickets for seven runs against Bangladesh in Nagpur in 2019.

Shakib Al Hasan previously held the best T20 bowling record by a Bangladesh bowler after snapping up six wickets for just six runs in Caribbean Premier League (CPL) in 2013 when he represented Barbados Tridents in a match against Trinidad & Tobago Red Steel.

However, Taskin’s bowling figure is best in BPL history. He went past Pakistan’s Mohammad Amir who, playing for Khulna Tigers took 6-17 against Rajshahi Royals in 2020 at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.

Despite Taskin’s fiery bowling Dhaka Capitals amassed 174-9.
Taskin took five wickets of his seven in his last two overs. In the 17th over, he removed Dhaka’s top-scorer Shahadat Hossain Dipu who made 50 before taking the wicket of Chaturanga de Silva. In the last of the innings, he took three wickets in four balls, narrowly missing his hat-trick chance. As he is on the verge of becoming the first bowler to take eight wickets in a T20 innings, Mustafizur Rahman denied him by taking a single in the last ball of the innings.

Taskin dismissed Liton Das for duck to open his account before taking the wicket of Tanzid Hasan Tamim in his second over.
