Fire service conducts awareness campaign at Karail slum

The Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD) has held a campaign to increase awareness among the slum dwellers at city’s Karail slum about prevention of fire as the winter season used to witness a rise in fire incidents.

As part of the move to make people aware on how to deal with fire incidents, the fire service officials trained the slum dwellers at Ershad ground of Karail slum here in the morning.

The slum dwellers were trained on what to do in case of a fire and how to cooperate when the fire service arrives to extinguish the fire. The officers and employees of the fire service divided into 10 teams went to different lanes and explained to the residents about what to do if the slum catches fire.

Every one of the slum dwellers was trained on how to dial the fire service hotline number 102. In the presence of the officers, many people later called the fire service by dialing the hotline number on a trial basis.

They were also given training on how to extinguish a gas cylinder fire.

Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Director of Public Relations of the Fire Service Md. Saleh Uddin said, "We are conducting the awareness campaign on a large scale keeping in mind the winter season, although such campaigns are carried out regularly by the Fire Service every Saturday.”

More than a hundred officers and employees from different levels of the Fire Service were present.
