GAIBANDHA, – The Community Policing Day-2019 was celebrated in the district as elsewhere in the country yesterday with a call for gearing up the community policing activity to make the society free from drug abuse, terrorism and militancy.
This year’s theme of the day was Mujib Barsher Mulmantra, Community policing Sarbattra”.
Marking the day, a discussion meeting on the importance of the day was organized by District Community Policing Coordination Committee (DCPCC) at drill shed of Police Lines of the town with General Secretary of the DCPCC Protap Ghosh in the chair.
Whip of the Jaitiya Sangshad Mahabub Ara Begum Gini attended the function as chief guest and Superintendent Of Police (SP) Muhammad Towhidul Islam was present as special guest.
The function was also addressed among others by Additional Superintendent of Police Moynul Hoque, Bir Muktijoddha Goutam Chandra Modok, President of Sadar thana community policing committee Saiful Alam Saka, General Secretary Shah Ahsan Habib Rajib, senior journalist Abu Jafor Sabu, General Secretary of District Puja Udjapon Committee Dipak Kumar Paul, member of Gobindaganj community policing committee Firoz Noon Khan, Officer -In -Charge(OC) of Sadar Thana Khan Mohammad Shahriar, OC of Gobindaganj Thana AKM Mehedi Hasan while assistant superintendent of police (C-circle) Md. Asaduzzaman and Sub Inspector Aminul Islam conducted the function as moderator.
The speakers said Bangladesh is a densely populated country so there is no alternative to community policing to maintain peaceful law and order situation in the country.
They also underscored the need for gearing up the community policing activity from urban to grass root level to eliminate drug abuse, terrorism, militancy, stalking, child marriage and newly added cybercrimes.
Mahabub Ara Begum Gini in her speech said the youths would have to be brought under the mainstream of the development considering their better future through conducting community policing by the community policing members and other stakeholders of the society to build an enriched nation.
She also urged the community policing members to be more serious, earn confidence and belief to the people from all walks of life of the society and make the policing activities more popular through having community policing philosophy.
SP Muhammad Towhidul Islam said the law-enforcing agencies and the community people should have to work together to attain the cherished goal, as the law-enforcers alone aren’t capable of overcoming the crisis.
Earlier, the chief guest along with other guests formally cut a cake and distributed prizes among best community policing members .
A large number of people including police officials, community policing members, students, teachers, social workers and media men participated in the programmes.
