BNP standing committee member Abdul Moyeen Khan said that language veteran Oli Ahad devoted his whole life against all fascism to establish the right to freedom of the people.
“The young generation should take lesson from his sacrifice,” he said while addressing a memorial meeting on 12th death anniversary of Oli Ahad at National Press Club here today.
Democratic League (DL) and Oli Ahad Smrity Sangsad jointly organized the memorial meeting with president of DL freedom fighter Moinuddin Kadry Shawkot in the chair.
BNP standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan, daughter of Oli Ahad and BNP’s assistant international affairs secretary Barrister Rumin Farhana, president of Nagorik Oikya Mahmudur Rahman Manna and chief coordinator of Gano Sanghati Andolon Jonayed Saki also spoke, among others, on the occasion.
Moderated by DL secretary general Khokon Chandra Das, the meeting was addressed, among others, by chief coordinator of Jatiyatabdi Samomona Jote Barrister Forhaduzzaman Forhad, general secretary of Biplobi Workers Party Saiful Haque, adviser to the BNP chairperson Abdul Hye Sikder, BNP alliance leaders-ATM Golam Mawla, Khandkar Lutfar Rahman, Majaharul Haque Mithu, Sujon Chakraborty and human rights activist M M Jamal Uddin.
Abdul Moyeen Khan said the role of Oli Ahad from anti-British movement to anti-autocratic movement was highly courageous and logical. He was expelled from the Dhaka University for his courageous role in the language movement.
Oli Ahad would always remain as an inspiration for the students and common people in any movement against any fascist government, he said.
BNP leader Nazrul Islam Khan said, Oli Ahad was one of the main figures in Bangladesh politics for his sincerity, honesty, truthfulness and courage.
Barrister Rumin Farhana recalled his father’s memory saying he was great leader and also my teacher. His whole life was full of courage, honesty and sincerity.
Mahmudur Rahman Manna said, Oli Ahad was an outspoken, courageous and honest leader and always fought for truth and justice.
Junayed Saki said, Oli Ahad did not take any opportunity from the politics and struggled for people’s rights and dignity throughout his life.
