A five-member delegation led by Dr.Fujiang Yu, Director Generalof National Marine Environmental Forecasting Centre (NMEFC) of China called onDhaka University (DU) Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Prof. Dr. Mamun Ahmed yesterday at the VC's meeting room of the university. Other team members were Dr. Jianxi Dong, Dr. Dakui Wang, Dr. YuanyongGao and Dr. Zongchen Wang, a press release said.
Dean of the Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences of DU Prof. Dr. KaziMatinUddin Ahmed, Chairman of DU Oceanography Department Dr. K M AzamChowdhury, Prof. Dr. Md.JobaerAlam,Visiting Professor Dr. Tonia Astrid Capuano and some other faculty memberswere present on this occasion.
During the meeting they discussed matters of mutual interests specially the possibilities of strengthening ongoing joint collaborative academic and research programs on ocean science, marine forecasting and disaster management between Dhaka University and National Marine Environmental Forecasting Centre of China. The possibilities of establishing a joint forecasting centre at Dhaka University was also discussed in the meeting. They stressed the need for enhancement of ongoing joint Masters and PhD programs between the two institutions to promote education and research on oceanography, climate change, meteorology, disaster science and management.
It may be mentioned that aMemorandum of Understanding (MoU) between DU and NMEFC was signed in 2021 to foster international cooperation in scientific research. Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) of DU Prof. Dr. Mamun Ahmed thanked the guests for their visit to Dhaka University and keen interest in its academic and research activities.
