NSUSSC organizes ‘Onushongo’  

Event to connect old age people with the young generation

TBT Report: Being inspired with a sense of empathy and social responsibility among the youth, the North South University Social Services Club (NSUSSC) held an impactful event, Bioxin presents “Onushongo”, powered by KTM in association with United Health Care, last Friday. The club members visited Boyoshko Purnobashon Kendro by Givency Group located in Monipur, Hotapara, Gazipur, spending the day offering support and companionship to the elderly residents.

Approximately 100 NSUSSC members participated in this heartwarming initiative, engaging with a group of elderly residents. As a token of the club’s commitment to the well-being of these seniors, essential supplies including wheelchairs, medications, and other medical necessities were provided. In addition, the club pledged to cover the residents’ medical needs for the upcoming year, ensuring long-term care and support.

This remarkable event was graced by the presence of the club advisor Meshbaul Hassan Chowdhury whose involvement emphasized the importance of fostering a culture of compassion within the university community.

Also, one of the renowned Cartoonist Syed Rashad Imam Tanmoy joined the event. There everyone shared laughter and had a colourful moment together. Besides, fun activities like pillow passing games and musical activities to entertain them were arranged. Also, to build a green & safe environment, an initiative of tree plantation was done. This initiative was successful with the help of Asian Paints.

Mowrin Islam, President of NSUSSC, shared her thoughts on this event, “As students, we often get caught up in our busy lives, but today’s ‘Onushongo’ event reminds us of the importance of giving back. Spending time with the elderly has been a powerful experience, showing how much our care can mean to others. I hope this inspires all of us to continue finding ways to contribute to society, starting with the small acts of kindness that can make a big difference.”

And the club faculty advisor, Meshbaul Hassan Chowdhury said in this regard, “It’s wonderful to see the students leading initiatives like ‘Onushongo.’ Caring for the elderly helps build a compassionate society. I’m confident this event will inspire future generations to embrace empathy and social responsibility. I’m proud of our student’s dedication and the lasting impact they will make.”

The event left a lasting impression on the members, motivating them to continue engaging in similar efforts that promote kindness and responsibility toward the elderly in society.The initiative successfully reinforced the club’s mission to cultivate a spirit of giving and to inspire future projects driven by compassion and care for the community.
