On September 7, Dr. Md. Mahmudul Haque, Senior Lecturer at the Labuan Faculty of International Finance, University Malaysia Sabah, received the prestigious Sher-e-Bangla AK Fazlul Haq Gold Medal. The award was presented by the Human Rights Cultural Society for his outstanding contributions to fintech and Islamic finance. The ceremony, held at the Child Welfare Council, was graced by notable attendees, including former BTRC chairman Syed Maghur Morshed and Magistrate Rokon-ud-Doula.
Dr. Haque was recognized for his innovative research, which plays a key role in integrating modern financial technologies with Islamic principles, focusing on financial sustainability and digital transformation. His academic journey includes degrees from International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) and INCEIF, where he completed his Ph.D. in Islamic finance. Over his career, he has published more than 20 papers in renowned journals and earned multiple awards, including the Shah Abdul Karim Award and the Finance for Solution Award 2023.
In his acceptance speech, Dr. Haque expressed gratitude for the collective support of his colleagues, students, and mentors. He highlighted that the award motivates him to continue contributing to the development of fintech and Islamic finance.
Dr. Haque’s influence extends beyond research, as he is involved with the AAOIFI Working Group on Fintech and Crypto currency and serves on the editorial board of the International Journal of Management Research and Emerging Sciences. His role as a senior lecturer ensures the next generation of professionals is well-equipped to shape the future of Islamic finance.
