Niaz Mahmud from New York<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman exchanged greetings with US President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Dr Khalilur, who is serving as the President of the 81st UN General Assembly, disclosed the interaction in a post on his official Facebook page on Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cA personal exchange with H.E. Mr. Donald Trump, President of the United States,\u201d he wrote while sharing a photograph of the interaction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The brief exchange took place after President Trump delivered his address to the UN General Assembly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n According to the foreign minister's post, President Trump thanked Dr Khalilur during the interaction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The meeting came as world leaders and heads of government gathered at the UN Headquarters in New York for the high-level General Debate of the 81st session of the General Assembly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Dr Khalilur is presiding over the current session of the General Assembly, which is bringing together leaders and senior representatives from UN member states to discuss major global challenges and international cooperation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Meanwhile, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has been holding a series of high-level bilateral and multilateral engagements on the sidelines of the UNGA session, focusing on Bangladesh's national interests, economic cooperation, climate issues and the Rohingya crisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n On the first full day of his UNGA engagements, the Prime Minister met Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and discussed expanding trade and investment ties between Bangladesh and T\u00fcrkiye. The two sides also discussed strengthening bilateral relations and exploring new areas of cooperation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Prime Minister also held meetings with Bhutanese Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay, Maldives Vice-President Uz Hussain Mohamed Latheef, World Bank Group President Ajay Banga, Haitian Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aim\u00e9 and senior UN officials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Rohingya crisis remained a key priority in his diplomatic engagements.
