{"id":35562,"date":"2026-07-25T03:56:33","date_gmt":"2026-07-25T03:56:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thebangladeshtoday.com\/?p=35562"},"modified":"2026-07-25T03:56:36","modified_gmt":"2026-07-25T03:56:36","slug":"president-sahabuddin-resigns-due-to-illness","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thebangladeshtoday.com\/?p=35562","title":{"rendered":"President Sahabuddin resigns due to illness"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">President of the People's Republic of Bangladesh Mohammed Sahabuddin today submitted his resignation to Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad Bir Bikram, citing his health complications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Speaker accepted his resignation at 5:01 pm, said a press release signed by President's Press Secretary Md Sarwar Alam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In his resignation letter addressed to the Speaker, the President said, \"I am seriously ill. I am suffering from heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes and kidney complications. I have undergone bypass surgery. Recently, medical tests detected a disease called Autonomic Neuropathy. Due to this illness, I sometimes lose consciousness briefly. Because of the prevalence of these diseases, I am physically and mentally incapable of discharging the responsibilities of such an important constitutional post of President. I need long-term treatment.\"<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\"In this situation, in accordance with the provisions of Article 50(3) of the Constitution, I am resigning from the President's position,\" the resign letter reads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As per Article 54 of the Constitution of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, the Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad will discharge the duties of the President until a new President is elected and assumes office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mohammed Sahabuddin assumed office as the 22nd President of Bangladesh on April 24, 2023.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>President of the People's Republic of Bangladesh Mohammed Sahabuddin today submitted his resignation to Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad Bir Bikram, citing his health complications.
