Prime Minister's adviser and spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) Mahdi Amin today called on US investors to expand their investment in Bangladesh, saying the government is committed to ensuring a level playing field, policy stability and a business-friendly environment to attract more Foreign Direct Investment (FDI).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\"The government considers the private sector as the main engine of economic growth and will provide all possible policy support to facilitate investment,\" he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The adviser made the remarks while addressing an event at a hotel in the city marking the 250 years of US independence organised by the American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh (AmCham) in association with the US Embassy in Dhaka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mahdi Amin said the government is working to restore confidence among foreign investors through transparency, accountability, good governance and the rule of law, adding that Bangladesh offers immense opportunities with its large domestic market, young workforce and growing middle class.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said the government has already taken steps to improve the investment climate, including facilitating profit repatriation, introducing liberal economic policies and offering tax incentives in economic zones, industrial parks and high-tech parks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Referring to concerns over unequal competition in the past, the adviser said the government is determined to eliminate unfair advantages and ensure equal opportunities for both local and foreign investors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He urged leading US companies to play a greater role in Bangladesh's development by increasing FDI, transferring technology and expertise, creating employment and strengthening local industries through partnerships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Highlighting priority sectors for bilateral cooperation, Mahdi Amin identified aviation, energy, information and communication technology (ICT), textiles, pharmaceuticals, agro-based exports and flight engineering as areas with strong investment potential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The adviser also stressed the need to transform \"brain drain\" into \"brain circulation\" by encouraging skilled Bangladeshi professionals living in the United States to contribute to the country's economic and technological advancement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He invited US companies to organise investment roadshows in Bangladesh and engage more closely with government policymakers to explore new business opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Expressing optimism over the future of Bangladesh-US economic relations, Mahdi Amin said successful American investments in Bangladesh would encourage more global investors to explore the country's growing economic potential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
