{"id":34280,"date":"2026-05-16T11:49:35","date_gmt":"2026-05-16T11:49:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thebangladeshtoday.com\/?p=34280"},"modified":"2026-05-16T11:49:37","modified_gmt":"2026-05-16T11:49:37","slug":"pm-inaugurates-khordda-canal-re-excavation-in-chandpur","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thebangladeshtoday.com\/?p=34280","title":{"rendered":"PM inaugurates Khordda Canal re-excavation in Chandpur"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today inaugurated the Khordda Canal re-excavation work in Waruk Bazar area of Tamta Dakshin Union in Shahrasti Upazila in the district.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He arrived at the Khordda Canal site by road around 2:40 pm and unveiled a plaque of the re-excavation programme.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Later, the Prime Minister inaugurated the re-excavation work by cutting soil with a spade. He planted saplings on the bank of the canal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu, local lawmaker Mominul Haque, Chandpur BNP General Secretary Advocate Salim Ullah Selim, Shahrasti Upazila BNP President Ayat Ali Bhuiyan and Vice President Abu Yusuf Rupam were present on the occasion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>President Ziaur Rahman excavated this Khordda Canal in 1978. After 48 years, the canal is now being re-excavated by his son Tarique Rahman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After launching the Khordda Canal re-excavation work, the Prime Minister ascended a stage built next to the canal while thousands of leaders, activists and supporters on both sides of the canal welcomed the premier with loud slogans and applause.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tarique Rahman is also scheduled to inaugurate the re-excavation work of another canal named 'Bishwa Canal' adjacent to Ghosher Hat in Kumardugi village of Shah Mahmudpur Union of Chandpur Sadar Upazila this afternoon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Bishwa Canal runs from the Dakatia River to the southern border of Matlab via Ghosher Hat.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today inaugurated the Khordda Canal re-excavation work in Waruk Bazar area of Tamta Dakshin Union in Shahrasti Upazila in the district.
