The government has announced a significant change in the schedule of the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations from 2027 in a bid to save students\u2019 valuable academic time and align the country\u2019s education calendar with international standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Under the new schedule, the SSC examinations will begin on January 7, 2027, while the HSC examinations will start on June 6, 2027.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Education Minister Dr. ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon announced the revised schedules at a press conference held at the Ministry of Education conference room this (Thursday) afternoon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the minister, the SSC and equivalent examinations will begin on January 7 and conclude on February 6, while the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations will be held from June 6 to July 13. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said the examination routines have already been finalised and will be published soon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking about reducing session congestion and saving academic time, Dr. Milon said students are currently losing a significant amount of valuable time in preparing for examinations and waiting for results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cA student is supposed to complete SSC at the age of 16 and HSC at 18, but due to session congestion, it is often delayed until the age of 20. We want to reduce this gap. Our target is to make December the examination month so that new academic sessions can begin from January,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Referring to overseas higher education applications, the minister said the government plans to complete HSC examinations within June and July so that students can better align with international admission cycles and semester schedules.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He also said public universities would be urged, through the University Grants Commission (UGC), to coordinate admission processes so that higher education admissions can begin within two months of the publication of results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Responding to a question about coaching centres, Dr. Milon said classroom teaching must be made more effective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhen we reduce the gap between examinations and admissions and strengthen in-house teaching, the necessity of coaching centres will naturally decline,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He further said the government is working with various organisations, including the World Health Organization (WHO), to improve the quality of education, strengthen teacher training, and encourage students to develop reading habits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
