<\/figure>\n\n\n\nSpeaking about the importance of railways over road transport, the Prime Minister said, \u201cThe more roads we continue to widen, the more vehicles will come onto the roads. Traffic will definitely increase\u201d. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Besides, if roads are built, agricultural land will also be destroyed, he said, adding, \u201cTherefore, we will definitely improve roads and communication systems, but we want to develop the railway system. You will surely be interested if the railway system between Dhaka and Sylhet is improved\u201d.
Noting that an initiative has been taken to establish a double line on the Sylhet-Dhaka railway route, Tarique Rahman said, work on this will begin soon. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAs a result, we will be able to travel at lower cost. Simultaneously, business people will also be able to transport their goods at lower cost,\u201d he added. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
About improving healthcare services in rural areas, the Prime Minister said that initiatives have been taken to build a healthcare system in the country following the model of the United Kingdom\u2019s National Health Service (NHS). <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAlthough people in the cities receive healthcare services, people in the villages are deprived of complete healthcare services. We (hope) we would be able to reduce the number of sick people through creating awareness (among the people about their health),\u201d he said.
\u201cTo this end, the government has decided to recruit 100,000 health workers across the country, nearly 80 percent of whom will be women. These health workers will go to the doorsteps of the marginal people across the country and provide health awareness advice to them,\u201d the premier continued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He also said that steps are being taken to quickly launch a 250-bed hospital under Sylhet Medical College, which will later be upgraded to 1,200 beds.
About development of industries, the Prime Minister said industries and factories will be further expanded in Sylhet. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the same time, he said, new employment opportunities will also be created in the IT sector here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Regarding waterlogging in Sylhet, Tarique Rahman said the problem of waterlogging is not limited only to Sylhet; it is a common problem across the country. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
People must be made aware to solve this problem, he said and urged the city corporation to undertake various projects so that people can receive services. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The premier also urged the city corporation to take initiatives to make people aware and conscious so that they do not throw objects like plastic, polythene, paper, or any kind of waste material saphazradly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
About the \u2018Notun Kuri\u2019 programme, he said, Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman had launched the programme to find talented children. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Following that footsteps, Tarique Rahman said his government has taken an initiative to launch \u2018Notun Kuri Sports\u2019 to explore talented young athletes from across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAbout 30 lakh children across the country will be able to take part in the Notun Kuri Sports. Among these children, the talented ones will one day win gold medals abroad and bring honor for our country,\u201d he hoped.
Citing an example that a two-and-a-half-month-old child cannot walk, the Prime Minister said the age of this government is only about two and a half months. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHowever, in the meantime, we have started implementing the promises we made to the people. We have already introduced Family Card for women, Krishi Card for farmers, and Sport Card for athletes and allowances for imams and muezzins and religious leaders of other faiths,\u201d he said, adding, the government will gradually implement all the other projects as well. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI believe that if we work hard, we will be able to build our country like the developed countries in the world,\u201d Tarique Rahman said, adding that with this confidence, the government has started running the country. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cTherefore, to move this country forward, we all have to hold on to one belief, one slogan, and that is- \u201cKorbo Kaj, Gorbo Desh, Sobar Agee Bangladesh (We will work and build the country, Bangladesh comes first)\u2019,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
