The International Labour Organization (ILO) has\u00a0pledged continued support for employment generation in Bangladesh, aligning\u00a0with government priorities, during a bilateral meeting held in Geneva.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
ILO Director-General Gilbert Houngbo gave the assurance in talks with Labour\u00a0and Employment Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury on the sidelines of the 356th\u00a0ILO Governing Body session, said an official handout here today.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Prime Minister's Adviser on Labour, Employment and Education Mahdi Amin and\u00a0Labour Secretary Md Abdur Rahman Tarafder were present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the meeting, the ILO chief congratulated the present government on\u00a0assuming office through a peaceful election and expressed willingness to\u00a0strengthen cooperation with Bangladesh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The labour minister conveyed greetings from Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and\u00a0said employment generation, particularly for youth and women, remains a top\u00a0government priority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He also sought ILO support in resolving the ongoing Article 26 complaint\u00a0against Bangladesh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ILO Director-General praised Bangladesh's diplomatic engagement within\u00a0the organisation and emphasised the importance of continued labour sector\u00a0reforms alongside international collaboration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The minister further called for enhanced cooperation from global brands and\u00a0multinational companies to ensure labour rights and expand social protection\u00a0measures for workers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He welcomed the ILO Director-General's planned visit to Bangladesh in June.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
