The law minister made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of the re-excavation of the Shirishkath canal, originally excavated by Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, at village Kanyadah in Harinakunda upazila of Jhenaidah this afternoon.

He said July had changed the course of the nation\u2019s journey, and in recognition of the sacrifices of those who were killed or forcibly disappeared in democratic movements spanning 1952, 1971, 1982\u201390, and 2007\u20132024, the BNP would proceed toward implementing the July Charter in letter and spirit.

Referring to the canal excavation programme initiated for Bangladesh\u2019s development by Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, Law Minister Md Asaduzzaman said Ziaur Rahman, the visionary of a self-reliant Bangladesh, had shown the country the path to economic emancipation through nationwide canal excavation initiatives. He added that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, a worthy successor, has revived his father\u2019s canal excavation programme, ushering in a renewed phase of development and production in the country.
