Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur\u00a0Rahman today said his party would extend cooperation to the government in\u00a0every possible sphere if sought, in the greater interest of the country and\u00a0its people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\"If the ruling party wants, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami will assist the\u00a0government in all areas for the welfare of the nation and its citizens,\" he\u00a0told journalists after a views-exchange meeting with the party's newly\u00a0elected Members of Parliament at Al-Falah Auditorium in the capital's\u00a0Moghbazar area this evening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Referring to past elections, Shafiqur Rahman said fair voting had not always\u00a0been ensured in the country in the struggle to establish democracy, and many\u00a0citizens were deprived of their voting rights. \"This time, people have been\u00a0able to exercise their voting rights. We will work to fulfill the\u00a0expectations with which the people have elected us,\" he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Seeking cooperation from citizens in the days ahead, he added, \"We will not\u00a0leave you. In happiness and hardship, we will remain by your side,\u00a0Insha'Allah.\"<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Expressing hope that responsible conduct by both the government and the\u00a0opposition would help institutionalize democracy, the Jamaat chief said a new\u00a0chapter would begin with the oath-taking ceremony of the Members of\u00a0Parliament tomorrow. \"Through this, a new history will be created. If we work\u00a0with accountability, we hope to overcome whatever challenges lie ahead,\" he\u00a0said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Highlighting the significance of the July mass uprising, he said the party\u00a0would move forward upholding the spirit of \"July,\" recalling that the nation\u00a0had struggled during that time and, through immense acrifice and loss of\u00a0life, freed itself from fascism.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\"If we forget July, it will return again and again. The aspirations for which\u00a0people shed blood in July will be upheld in Parliament without compromise,\"\u00a0he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Shafiqur Rahman also expressed hope that raising the people's voices in\u00a0Parliament would make democracy more vibrant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
