{"id":31898,"date":"2026-01-07T12:21:54","date_gmt":"2026-01-07T12:21:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thebangladeshtoday.com\/?p=31898"},"modified":"2026-01-07T12:21:56","modified_gmt":"2026-01-07T12:21:56","slug":"un-secretary-general-condoles-death-of-begum-khaleda-zia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thebangladeshtoday.com\/?p=31898","title":{"rendered":"UN Secretary General condoles death of Begum Khaleda Zia\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">UN Secretary General Ant\u00f3nio Guterres has expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of three-time former Prime Minister of Bangladesh and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI was saddened to learn of the passing of Her Excellency Begum Khaleda Zia, former Prime Minister of the People's Republic of Bangladesh,\u201d the UN Secretary General wrote to Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus in a message dated on January 2.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Chief Adviser\u2019s Press Wing released the message today.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOn behalf of the United Nations, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the people of Bangladesh and to her family,\u201d Guterres said, adding, as the first woman to serve as Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Khaleda Zia occupies a distinguished place in the political history of the nation, shaped by many years of public service and leadership.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAt this time of mourning, I wish to convey my deepest sympathy to her family and loved ones, as well as to the Government and the people of Bangladesh,\u201d the UN Ant\u00f3nio Guterres said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cPlease accept, Excellency, the assurances of my highest consideration,\u201d he added.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Begum Khaleda Zia, widely regarded as an uncompromising leader for democracy in Bangladesh, breathed her last on December 30 last year at the age of 80 while undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in the city.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She was laid to eternal rest with full state honour beside her husband Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman's grave at Zia Udyan in the capital on December 31.&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>UN Secretary General Ant\u00f3nio Guterres has expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of three-time former Prime Minister of Bangladesh and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.&nbsp; \u201cI was saddened to learn of the passing of Her Excellency Begum Khaleda Zia, former Prime Minister of the People's Republic of Bangladesh,\u201d the UN Secretary General wrote [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":6,"featured_media":31899,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1,93],"tags":[47],"class_list":["post-31898","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-bangladesh","category-nationwide","tag-47"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.1 -
