Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A M M Nasir Uddin has said Bangladesh\u2019s newly introduced \u2018hybrid postal voting\u2019 is expected to become a model for countries around the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He made the remarks while talking to journalists after inspecting postal ballot operations at the Tejgaon Mail Processing Centre in the capital this afternoon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe are hopeful that this hybrid model (online registration combine manual counting of postal ballots) will emerge as a global example,\u201d the CEC said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said that for the first time since independence, arrangements have been made to enable expatriate Bangladeshis to cast their votes through postal ballots.
\u201cIn the last 54 years, such an opportunity did not come. We have taken this initiative in line with the commitment made by the Chief Adviser. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe Election Commission is fully committed to fulfilling that promise,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Expressing optimism about further development of the system, Nasir Uddin said it would continue to improve with time.
\u201cIn future elections, the system will be more advanced and its coverage will expand further,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Responding to a question on challenges in introducing the system for the first time, the CEC said the Election Commission had faced multiple challenges and had been working for a long time to address them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe sought support from a wide range of experts, including specialists from different universities and both local and international ICT companies. Consultancy assistance was taken from organisations such as IFES and UNDP,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said, \u201cOur experts have successfully handled the cyber attacks. Despite all challenges, we have moved forward effectively and Insha Allah, we will complete the remaining tasks properly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Regarding the upcoming 13th National Parliament Election, the CEC expressed confidence that the overall law and order would continue to improve as the election draws nearer.
\u201cFollowing our meeting with law enforcement agencies yesterday, we informed the nation that all stakeholders will work together to ensure a fair and peaceful election,\" he said.
\"As polling day approaches, the law and order situation will improve further, public fear will diminish and voters will participate with enthusiasm,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Describing the work environment at the Tejgaon Mail Processing Centre as satisfactory, Nasir Uddin said the officials and staff were working with enthusiasm and efficiency.
\u201cThey are pleased to be able to contribute to the nation. The election will be held in a festive manner. Public confidence in the Election Commission already exists and will grow stronger in the future,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The CEC said around 5.75 lakh voters have already completed registration for postal voting, noting that three more days remain for registration. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He expressed hope that the registration number would increase significantly during this period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
