A high-level delegation from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), led by Tariq H. Niazi, senior director of Public\u00a0Sector Management and Governance Department, ADB Headquarters in Philippines,\u00a0and Hoe Yun Jeong, country director of ADB Bangladesh, met with Syeda Rizwana\u00a0Hasan, adviser to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change at\u00a0her office in Bangladesh Secretariat today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the meeting, Syeda Rizwana Hasan, also the adviser to the Ministry of\u00a0Water Resources, underscored the urgent need to safeguard Bangladesh's\u00a0agricultural land from rapid and unsustainable conversion, noting that the\u00a0country is losing nearly one percent of its cultivable land each year.

She urged ADB to assist the government in conducting a comprehensive mapping\u00a0of agricultural zones and to provide both technical and financial support to\u00a0strengthen land-use governance and ensure food security by 2050, said a\u00a0Ministry press release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The adviser also emphasized the importance of rainwater harvesting as an\u00a0effective climate adaptation measure, especially in coastal regions.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She called for ADB's support in scaling up small-scale community water\u00a0initiatives into nationwide programs. Rizwana Hasan reiterated the\u00a0government's commitment to developing bankable climate-resilient projects,\u00a0particularly under the Bangladesh Climate Development Partnership (BCDP), and\u00a0mentioned that shortlisted projects will soon be shared with ADB for further\u00a0collaboration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In response, Niazi, senior director of the ADB, reaffirmed ADB's strong\u00a0partnership with Bangladesh and expressed readiness to provide additional\u00a0funding and technical assistance for climate-resilient development and\u00a0institutional strengthening.

Country Director Jeong highlighted ADB's ongoing initiatives to mobilize\u00a0private sector investment and said an ADB mission from the Office of Market\u00a0Development would visit Dhaka next week to explore resource mobilization\u00a0opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Both parties agreed on the need for faster implementation of pilot projects-especially in river restoration, water management, and community adaptation-to achieve tangible results on the ground.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
