Bangladesh Army today said the law and order situation will return to normalcy if the planned national election in February is held, paving ways for their return to barracks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cLike the country\u2019s people, Bangladesh Army is expecting a free, fair, impartial and festive election as per government outline,\u201d Army Training and Doctrine Command\u2019s (ARTDOC) general officer commanding Lieutenant General Md Mainur Rahman told a media briefing at Dhaka Cantonment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said the army would extend its full assistance for the polls adding the military was now taking election preparedness in the light of the extent of polls roadmap unveiled so far.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe believe the election will solidify the country\u2019s stability, normalize the law and order and then the army could go back cantonments,\u201d Rahman said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The army is now deployed in the field in aid to civil power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rahman said a free, fair, and acceptable election is essential for the overall peace, stability, and progress of the country. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe army is ready to provide maximum cooperation and fulfill its responsibilities in achieving that goal,\u201d he assured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rahman also revealed that 90,000 to 100,000 soldiers will be deployed nationwide during the upcoming elections \u2014 a figure significantly higher than in any previous election period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said some vested groups were spreading false and fabricated propaganda to question the army\u2019s integrity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI want to assure the countrymen that every member of the army is loyal and trustworthy to the army chief and the army\u2019s senior leadership. Our army members are more united than ever before, and our sense of brotherhood is stronger,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSo we say to everyone- let\u2019s leave behind the propaganda on social media and move forward together,\u201d he said, adding that the army has duly fulfilled its responsibilities and will continue to do so in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He continued that the Bangladesh Army remains firm, professional, and committed to national service despite facing challenges during continuous field deployment over the past 15 months. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He expressed hope that an acceptable national election will soon allow the army to return to its regular training and modernization activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIn peacetime, the main responsibility of the army is to prepare for war. We always say- \u2018We train as we fight,\u2019 meaning we train the way we fight\u201d, he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, for the last 15 months, the army has been working in the field in aid to the civilian administration, he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis has hampered training activities somewhat, but the army has always been firm and professional in performing its duties,\u201d he also said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rahman mentioned that the past 15 months have been particularly challenging for the army, saying that while maintaining law and order in different parts of the country, troops had to face many adverse situations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSuch situations are not an everyday occurrence for Bangladesh. However, the army has always been and will remain ready in the interest of the country,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He emphasized that the Bangladesh Army operates under the direction of the government as an integral part of the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe army has always stood by the people in any disaster or challenging situation and will continue to do so in the future,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He continued: \u201cThe Bangladesh Army has proven its capabilities and skills in all areas \u2014 whether in internal security, disaster management, infrastructure development, or international peacekeeping.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Brigadier General Dewan Mohammad Monzur Hossain and Director of the PS Directorate under the AG's Branch at the Army Headquarters Brigadier General Md Mustafizur Rahman were present during the briefing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
