The National Citizen Party (NCP) has called on the interim administration to formally proclaim the implementation of the July National Charter and to adopt a clear, enforceable timetable for constitutional reform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Addressing a roundtable titled \u201cFramework for Implementing the July Charter\u201d at the National Press Club on Tuesday, October 28, Senior Advocate of the Bangladesh Supreme Court Barrister Ehsan Siddik said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cBecause of the principled and bold stance of NCP, we now have a Draft Order for the implementation of the July Charter.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He added, \u201cWith regard to automatic implementation after 270 days, major political parties are unlikely to agree to this. But without automatic implementation the process could continue for the lifetime of parliament. NCP could consider the approach whereby Parliament will only sit after the task of the Constitution Reform Assembly is completed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
NCP Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary urged Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus and his Advisers to visit the Shaheed Minar and officially announce the implementation of the July National Charter. He proposed that families of those killed and injured during the July Movement be present at the announcement and stated that NCP will sign the Charter on that day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Patwary further called on Dr Asif Nazrul, noting that the Charter is with the Law Commission, to act \u201cquickly and in the people\u2019s interest.\u201d Criticising the 1972 Constitution as \u201crotten,\u201d he said it \u201clegalized the killing of our brothers,\u201d warning that \u201cthose who block reforms as party loyalists will find no safe exit.\u201d He rejected what he termed a \u201cparalyzed Election Commission\u201d and described the BNP\u2013Jamaat alliance\u2019s opposition posture as \u201ca political farce.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
