{"id":30638,"date":"2025-10-20T11:14:01","date_gmt":"2025-10-20T11:14:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thebangladeshtoday.com\/?p=30638"},"modified":"2025-10-20T11:14:02","modified_gmt":"2025-10-20T11:14:02","slug":"july-uprising-murder-cases-to-be-held-at-speedy-trial-tribunals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thebangladeshtoday.com\/?p=30638","title":{"rendered":"July Uprising murder cases to be held at speedy trial tribunals"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The government has decided to hold the trials of\u00a0cases filed over the killings during July Mass Uprising-2024 at speedy trial\u00a0tribunals and has formed a committee to ensure smooth and effective\u00a0prosecution of cases filed over murder and other serious offences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Confirming the development, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Ministry\u00a0spokesperson Dr Md Rezaul Karim said that apart from the cases currently\u00a0under trial at the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT), the July Uprising\u00a0murder cases will be tried to hold at the speedy trial tribunals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\"The special committee, formed to ensure smooth and efficient prosecution of\u00a0cases filed over murder and other serious offences, will be headed by an\u00a0additional secretary of the Law and Justice Division,\" he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the ministry, the committee will collect a comprehensive list of\u00a0cases filed over murder and other serious offences committed with the intent\u00a0to suppress the nationwide student and mass movement during the July Uprising, along with the current status of each case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It will identify any existing challenges in conducting prosecution activities\u00a0in cases-except those under trial at the ICT-where charge sheets have already\u00a0been submitted, and will make necessary recommendations to the government to\u00a0resolve such issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The committee will also keep the victim families and the general public\u00a0periodically informed about the progress of its activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ministry sources said a total of 837 cases have been filed over killings\u00a0\"carried out following the orders of the then Awami fascist government\"\u00a0during the July Mass Uprising, 45 of which are now under trial at the two\u00a0ICTs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\"In addition, police have already submitted charge-sheets in 19 murder cases\u00a0to various criminal courts across the country.
