Robi Axiata PLC has undertaken an initiative to distribute smart canes among visually impaired individuals as part of its ongoing efforts to promote empowerment through digital inclusion. The initiative, launched in observance of World White Cane Safety Day, aims to enhance safety, mobility and independence for visually impaired persons by providing access to innovative assistive technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The event, held on Thursday at Robi\u2019s Corporate Office in Dhaka, was attended by Shahed Alam, Chief Corporate and Regulatory Officer, Robi Axiata PLC; Sharif Shah Jamal Raz, Director, Public Affairs and Sustainability, Robi Axiata PLC; and Ridwan Hossain, Chief Executive Officer, Drishti Technologies Limited, along with other senior officials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Developed by Drishti Technologies, the Abhash Smart Cane features sonar-based obstacle detection technology, haptic feedback and audio alerts to help users navigate safely and confidently. Bangladesh is home to an estimated four million visually impaired people, many of whom face daily challenges in mobility, education and employment. Robi\u2019s initiative seeks to bridge these gaps by making essential assistive technology more accessible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking at the event, Shahed Alam, Robi\u2019s Chief Corporate and Regulatory Officer, said: \u201cWe believe that innovation should always serve the greater good. The Smart Cane initiative is a testament to that belief \u2013 an example of how technology can be used to build a more inclusive digital society. This device will enhance the safety and independence of visually impaired individuals, empowering them to live with greater confidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The smart cane distribution program is being implemented in collaboration with seven partner organizations: Ispahani Islamia Eye Institute and Hospital, Visually Impaired People\u2019s Society (VIPS), Real View, Blind Education and Rehabilitation Development Organization (BERDO), Doors of Inclusive Society (DIS), Nohor Initiatives, and Sporsho Foundation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
