The government has officially declared Cox's\u00a0Bazar Airport as an international airport, marking a significant milestone in\u00a0Bangladesh's aviation and tourism development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A gazette notification, signed by Joint Secretary Ahmed Jamil on Sunday and\u00a0issued by order of the President, formally declared the facility as Cox's\u00a0Bazar International Airport under Sub-Rule (1) of Rule 16 of the Civil\u00a0Aviation Rules, 1984.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The order came into immediate effect in the public interest, the Civil\u00a0Aviation and Tourism Ministry said here today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Officials said international flight operations from Cox's Bazar will begin\u00a0later this month on a limited scale as part of a \"soft launch,\" with the full\u00a0range of services to follow upon completion of ongoing infrastructure\u00a0upgrades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The National flag carrier Biman Bangladesh Airlines has already planned to\u00a0operate its maiden international service on the Cox's Bazar-Kolkata-Cox's\u00a0Bazar route via Dhaka, opening a new chapter in regional connectivity and\u00a0tourism promotion, Biman's official said.

\"The declaration of Cox's Bazar as an international airport is a major step\u00a0toward transforming the district into a global tourism hub,\" a senior\u00a0official at the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) told BSS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\"The airport's operational readiness will significantly strengthen air\u00a0connectivity and enhance Bangladesh's competitiveness in the South Asian\u00a0travel market,\" he added.

Launched in 2021, the upgradation project aims to transform Cox's Bazar into\u00a0a full-fledged international gateway with modern facilities.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A separate runway expansion project, extending the existing 6,775-foot\u00a0airstrip to 9,000 feet to accommodate wide-body aircraft, is progressing\u00a0steadily and is scheduled for completion by December 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Cox's Bazar International Airport became Bangladesh's fourth international\u00a0airport, after Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka, Osmani\u00a0International Airport in Sylhet and Shah Amanat International Airport in\u00a0Chattogram.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Officials believe the new facility will not only attract international\u00a0tourists to the country's premier beach destination but also facilitate\u00a0exports of perishable goods, create new business opportunities, and boost\u00a0
local employment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
