The Advisory Council in a meeting today decided to form an independent investigation service for the Bangladesh Police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus chaired the meeting held at his office in the city Tejgaon area, said Chief Adviser\u2019s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam at a press briefing at the Foreign Service Academy in the city this afternoon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe Advisory Council has decided to establish an independent investigation service for the police so that inquiries can be conducted free from political or any other external influences,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Advisory Council also directed establishing a separate commission to examine internal complaints within the police service, Shafiqul Alam said, adding, \u201cThe Ministry for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs will work to implement these two decisions as soon as possible\u201d. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Advisers Asif Nazrul and Adilur Rahman Khan, and the Chief Adviser\u2019s Special Assistant on Home Affairs Khoda Box Chowdhury will be involved in this process, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Noting that the meeting put emphasis on strengthening the local government institutions, the press secretary said, \u201cThe Chief Adviser repeatedly emphasized that local government bodies must be empowered further. He instructed taking measures so that Union Parishads, Upazila Parishads, Zila Parishads, municipalities, and city corporations can raise their own funds and manage them transparently.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
About challenges in the health sector, Shafiqul Alam said, \u201cSome medical colleges are facing shortages of qualified teachers. Therefore, initiatives will be taken to engage retired teachers as consultants or in other roles to improve the quality of education.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The meeting also discussed the situation of Bangladeshis who are now in Nepal, he said, adding, \u201cBangladeshis in Nepal are safe and the Bangladesh Embassy there is taking their care. Arrangements have already been made to bring the national football team home on a special flight of Bangladesh Air Force.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
About the overall outcome of Today\u2019s Advisory Council meeting, Shafiqul Alam said, \u201cEvery decision taken at today\u2019s meeting will further strengthen Bangladesh\u2019s economy, governance and our position in the international arena.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
