Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui has taken a sharp jab at the Hindi film industry, accusing it of normalising plagiarism and lacking originality. While promoting his latest release, \u201cCostao\u201d, the actor opened up in an interview with Puja Talwar on YouTube, criticising Bollywood\u2019s current creative direction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIn our industry, the same thing keeps getting recycled for five years. Once the audience grows tired, only then do they let it go,\u201d he said, describing the industry as being plagued by deep insecurity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThere\u2019s no creativity left. It\u2019s become about clinging to formulas and endlessly dragging them out. Sequels upon sequels\u20142, 3, 4\u2014it\u2019s all creative bankruptcy. This industry has been stealing since the beginning. Songs, scripts, scenes\u2014nothing has been spared.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Referring to Bollywood as \u201cchor\u201d, Nawaz added, \u201cHow can thieves be creative? We\u2019ve lifted from the South, from here and there\u2014even from cult classics. Some popular scenes were directly copied. And now it\u2019s all so normalised that no one even questions it anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He further stated that many films in the past were straightforward remakes. \u201cPeople would just hand over a video cassette and say, \u2018Make this\u2019. Directors and actors with genuine talent, like Anurag Kashyap, are gradually leaving. That says something.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In \u201cCostao\u201d, now streaming on ZEE5, Nawazuddin plays the titular role of Costao Fernandes, a Goa-based customs officer who risked it all to expose a major gold smuggling network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Directed by Sejal Shah, the biographical crime drama also stars Priya Bapat, Kishore, Hussain Dalal, and Mahika Sharma.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
