The Kremlin on Sunday declined to confirm or deny a US report of a phone call between US President Donald Trump and\u00a0Russian President Vladimir Putin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Washington and Moscow have not officially confirmed any communication between\u00a0the leaders since Trump took office on a pledge to swiftly end the Ukraine\u00a0fighting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The New York Post late Saturday reported that Trump told the publication he\u00a0had spoken on the phone to Putin to discuss bringing an end to the conflict\u00a0in Ukraine and the Russian told him he \"wants to see people stop dying\".<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The newspaper quoted Trump as saying he had \"better not say\" how often the\u00a0leaders have spoken.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov in comments to TASS state news agency said he\u00a0could not confirm or deny a conversation took place, but suggested he was\u00a0unaware of any such call.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\"What can I say about this news item? As the administration in Washington\u00a0expands its work, many different communications arise. And these\u00a0communications are held through various channels,\" the spokesman said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\"And of course, given these multiple communications, I personally can not\u00a0know something, not be aware of something. Therefore in this case I can't\u00a0either confirm or deny this.\"<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Peskov previously several times denied reports of conversations between Trump\u00a0and Putin before the US leader's return to the presidency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Kremlin has said it is awaiting \"signals\" on a possible meeting between\u00a0Trump and Putin and that no-one in Trump's new administration has been in\u00a0touch about setting one up.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
