The governor made these remarks during the inaugural session of the year-long\u00a0\"Branding Bangladesh\" World Conference Series-2025, organised by the Center\u00a0for Non-Resident Bangladeshis, the event also included the launch of the Bank\u00a0Remittance Award ceremony at a city hotel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr. Mansur revealed a major case of money laundering involving US$20 billion\u00a0siphoned abroad by a Chattogram-based entity, describing it as one of the\u00a0largest instances in the country's history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\"We are collaborating with international authorities, including the FBI, to\u00a0recover these funds. Foreign organisations have expressed their willingness\u00a0to assist,\" he said, stressing the importance of global cooperation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The governor highlighted recent improvements in the banking sector, noting\u00a0that remittance inflows have grown by an average of 26 percent over the past\u00a0six months, amounting to 3 billion US dollars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Besides, he said, exports have reached US$2.5 billion during the same period.\u00a0He emphasized ongoing efforts to create a favorable environment for economic\u00a0growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr. Mansur pointed out that money laundering has been significantly curbed\u00a0due to better governance.

\"Previously, funds were laundered even from Dubai. Now, with improved\u00a0governance, we have managed to prevent such incidents. Incentives are being\u00a0provided to expatriates for sending remittances,\" he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, he cautioned that bureaucratic hurdles must be minimized to ensure\u00a0steady growth in remittances.

He also underscored the need for direct remittance channels, noting that\u00a0funds from Saudi Arabia often pass through Dubai before reaching Bangladesh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\"If people have confidence in banks, the sector will recover,\" Dr. Mansur\u00a0added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He commended the 2.5 percent incentive on remittances sent through banking\u00a0channels, which has bolstered inflows despite political uncertainties.
