Defence Adviser calls for research, modernisation in artillery regiment

Prime Minister's Defence Adviser Brigadier General (retd) Dr AKM Shamsul Islam today directed the Bangladesh Army's Artillery Regiment to strengthen research, develop indigenous tactics, enhance training and pursue modernisation to address the challenges of future battlefields.

He gave the directives while addressing the 45th Annual Artillery Conference, Sixth Reunion and Golden Jubilee celebration of the Artillery Centre and School at Halishahar in Chattogram.

The three-day programme, being held from November 3 to 5, also includes the 11th Colonel Commandant Investiture Ceremony and celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of the Artillery Centre and School, according to an ISPR release issued here this evening.

In his speech, the Defence Adviser highlighted the Artillery Regiment's glorious history, traditions and contributions to the country, including its role in the Great War of Liberation.

Emphasising the need to adapt to technology-driven warfare, he called for enhanced professional competence, advanced training and modernisation of the regiment.

He also stressed that national interests must receive the highest priority while discharging professional duties with honesty and discipline, in line with the government's policy of "Bangladesh First".

The adviser underscored the importance of proper maintenance of weapons and equipment, leadership development and ensuring the welfare of army personnel.

The programme was attended by the acting General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Army Training and Doctrine Command, Colonel Commandant and Director General (DG) of Border Guard Bangladesh, General Officer Commanding of 24 Infantry Division and Chattogram Area Commander, senior military and civilian
officials, serving and retired members of the Artillery Regiment, their families and invited guests.
