Three DU teachers and 21 students get Dean’s Award

A total of 21 students of various departments under the Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences of Dhaka
University (DU) have been awarded ‘Dean’s Award’ for their outstanding academic results in BS (Hons) examinations of 2015, 2016 and 2017. Besides, 3 teachers of the Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences have received Dean’s Award for their extra-ordinary contributions to original research. Dhaka University ViceChancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman handed over this award to the awardees as chief guest at a function held yesterday at
Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban of the university, a press release said.

Dean of the Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences Prof. Dr. A.S.M. Maksud Kamal presided over the function
while Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Prof. Dr. Muhammad Samad and Treasurer Prof. Dr. Md. Kamal Uddin addressed it as special guests.Chairmen of different departments declared the names of awardees.

Professor of the Department of Geography and Environment Dr. A Q M Mahbub gave vote of thanks. Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman urged the students to equip themselves with non-communal and humanitarian values. He hoped thatthe recipients of this award would play effective role to develop socio-economic condition of the country.

He congratulated the awardees for their brilliant results. Awardees (teachers) are: Prof. Dr. Kazi Matin Uddin Ahmed (Geology), Prof. Dr. Md. Kawser Ahmed (Oceanography) and Lecturer Md. Yousuf Gazi (Geology).
Awardees (students) are: Zannatul Ferdous, Naznin Bintey Hayder, Nishat Tasnim Kakon and Dola Dutta (Geography and Environment), Mahmud Al Noor Tushar, Afroza Parvin, Tamanna Meheran Shemu, Sumiya Sadeak, Sharaf Anika Hoque, Farjana Zareen Maria, Fatematuz Zohora Nishi and Md. Tariqul Islam (Geology), Nazma Ahmed, Shamima Ferdousi Sifa, Ariful Islam, Tanzim Hayat, Nawar Wadud Khan, Falguni Sarkar, Tanzeem Hossain, Sumaiya Tabassum and Ayesha Islam (Disaster Science and Management).
