DHAKA,  – Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi today said the Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB) is working across the country for establishing rights of the consumers and its operations should be further strengthened.

The minister said this at a seminar on ‘Strengthening Consumer Rights’ organized by CAB at the Bidyut Bhaban here to mark its district representatives’ conference, said a Ministry press release.

President of CAB and former Secretary Golam Rahman chaired the seminar, where Ahmad Ekramullah presented the key-note paper. Secretary of the Commerce Ministry Md Mofizul Islam, Director General of the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection M Shafiqul Islam Laskar and Chairman of Bangladesh Food Safety Authority Mohammad Mahfuzul Haque spoke as special guests.

Tipu Munshi said if the issue of consumer rights is incorporated in the curriculum of educational institutions, then awareness on this issue would be increased and thus the nation would be benefitted.

“Necessary steps will be taken to make the students aware of the issue from their early life. They will also be able to practice such knowledge in their life,” he added.

The Commerce Minister said that the present government under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been working relentlessly to establish consumer rights and food safety.

He also urged all concerned to remain alert so that the common people are not subjected to cheat and both businessmen and consumers are not affected.

Earlier at his office, Ambassador of Lithonia to Bangladesh Julius Pranevicius and Ambassador of Argentina to Dhaka Danial Chuburu called on the Commerce Minister at his secretariat office.

During the meeting, they discussed ways to address the existing barriers towards boosting trade and investment between Bangladesh and the two countries.
