DHAKA – The newly-elected 49 lawmakers for parliamentary reserved seats for women were sworn in at the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Bhaban here today.
Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury administered the oath of office to the MPs at the oath-taking room of the JS, said an official release.
Among the women MPs, 43 are of Awami League, four of Jatiya Party, one independent and one of Workers Party of Bangladesh.
JS acting Secretary AYM Golam Kibria conducted the oath taking ceremony while Deputy Speaker Advocate Md Fazle Rabbi Miah, Deputy Leader of the House Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury and Whips Md Atiur Rahman Atik, Panchanan Biswas, Mahabub Ara Begum Gini, Shamsul Hoque Chowdhury and Abu Sayeed Al Mahmood Swapon were present at the function.
The 43 MPs of Awami League are: Suborna Mustafa, Shirin Ahmed, Zannatul Bakia, Shabnam Jahan Shila, Nahid Ijhar Khan, Khadizatul Anwar, Waseqa Ayesha Khanam, Kaniz Fatema Ahmed, Basonti Chakma, Anjum Sultana, Aroma Dutta, Umme Fatema Nazma Begum, Shamsunnahar Bhuyian, Rumana Ali, Sultana Nadira, Hosne Ara, Habiba Rahman Khan, Zakia Parvin Khanam, Sheikh Ani Rahman, Aporajita Haque,
Shamima Akter Khanam, Fazilatun Nessa, Rabeya Ali, Tamanna Nusrat Bubly, Nargis Rahman, Monira Sultana, Khaleda Khanam, Syeda Rubina Mira, Kazi Kaniz Sultana, Gloria Jharna Sarker, Khondoker Mamata Hena Lovely, Syeda Zohra Alauddin, Rushema Begum, Zakia Tabassum, Farida Khanam (Saki), Syeda Rashida Begum, Adiba Anjum Mita, Ferdousi Islam Jessy, Parvin Haque Shikder, Khudeza Nasrin Akhter Hossain, Tahmina Begum, Nadia Yasmin Joly and Ratna Ahmed.
The four MPs of Jatiya Party are: Salma Islam, Masuda M Rashid Chowdhury, Raushon Ara Mannan, and Nazma Akter.
One of Workers Party is Lutfun Nesa Khan while independent one is Selina Islam.
On February 17, the Election Commission (EC) issued gazette with the names of 49 elected candidates for the parliamentary reserved seats for women.
The reserved seats for women are allocated to political parties in proportion with their number of seats in parliament. Accordingly, 43 seats are allotted to Awami League, four to Jatiya Party, one apiece for BNP and Jatiya Oikyafront, Workers’ Party and independent candidates.
