17 Shaheed minars, 7 mausoleums to be built in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM – Chattogram district council (zila parishad) has taken up projects to built 17 shaheed minars and 7 independence mausoleum (memorial) in Chattogram aimed at creating awareness among the young generation about Language Movement and historic Liberation War of Bangladesh.

These mausoleums and shaheed minars will be built at Govt primary schools located in different upazilas of the district. Besides, Chattogram District Council (CDC) will preserve the mass grave yard of the freedom fighters. On
the other hand, Moitree Memorials will be built beside the grave of allied forces, who were killed during the liberation war.

Under this project, Zila parishad will develop libraries and social organizations situated in the upazilas.

CDC sources said around 17 shaheed minars and 7 mausoleums will be built in 12 upazilas of the district with an estimated cost of Taka 12.50 crore from the revenue budget.

Chairman of District council Abdus Salam told BSS that the budget for the works formulated in November was sent to the concerned ministry for approval. He hoped that it would be approved within this month. He said, adding this
project was taken by CDC to preserve the memories of language movement, liberation war, conservation of mass graves of valiant freedom fighters and martyred.

Salam said the main aim of the project is to apprise the new generation about the country’s history of independence.

According to project profile, two shaheed minars will be built in Banskhali upazila, five in Satkania, one in Sitakunda, one in Hathazari, one in Fatikchari, one each at Raozan and Rangunia, one each at Boalkhali and
Anowara upazila.

Besides, Shaheed Mausoleum (memorial) will be built at Fatikchari, Raozan, Chandanaish, Banskhali, Mirasarai, Rangunia upazila areas. All mass grave will also be developed under this project, the sources added.
