DHAKA  – Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda today asked the officials who will be involved in the announcement of election results to be more cautious in declaring the results and performing their duties, saying that a single mistake can trigger conflicts and violence.

“You’ve to take the training properly and prove it in the field through performing your duties appropriately. Be careful while publishing results as a single mistake can create conflicts,” he said, speaking at a training programme at the Electoral Training Institute at Nirbachan Bhaban in city’s Agargaon.

The training session was on Election Management System (EMS), Candidate Information Management System (CIMS) and Result Management System (RMS).

Huda said, “One mistake — either in vote counting or in announcement of results-can create an untoward situation. So, you should be more cautious while counting and passing the voting results.”

The CEC said the technical persons are very important in the election process as results from all the polling centres in the country will come through the software. If there’s any fault, the election results might change,” he said.

“You’ve to apply your full capacity and merit and work hard to ensure a fair election,” he told the officials.

Huda said, “We are really amazed to see the public interest centering the election and the festive mood that is prevailing across the country. So, you should remain alert so that the interest and confidence of the people are not affected by our mistakes.”

EC Secretary Helaluddin Ahmed, ETI Director General Mostafa Faruque and Directors Forhad Hossain and Belayt Hossain, among others, were present in the training.
