Nazrul wrote for ending divisions of religions: Academicians

RANGPUR – Academicians of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) at a memorial discussion have said National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam wrote to bring an end to religious divisions for welfare of the humanity.

The BRUR unit Sangshad of Bangladesh Udichhi Shilpi Gosthi (BUSG) organised the discussion on the varsity’s campus on Sunday to celebrate the 119th birth anniversary of the national poet, a press release said today.

Presided over by President of BRUR unit Sangshad of BUSG Wadud Sadman, its Organising Secretary Roksana Pervin moderated the discussion.

Masters final-year student of the Department of Bengali Abdur Rab delivered keynote speech as the main discussant.

Head of the Department of Bengali Professor Dr Parimal Chandra Barman, Head of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism Dr Md Nazrul Islam and Assistant Professor of the Department of English Ali Raihan Sarker addressed.

Taking part in the discussion, the speakers said that peace, equality, rights and freedom were the core components of Nazrul’s poetic consciousness.

Highlighting relevant issues between Islam and Hinduism, Professor Barman said that Nazrul has written as many ‘Hamd’ and ‘Na’at’ as ‘Kirtan’ and ‘Shyama Sangeet’ comparing the compatibility issues between the two communities.

“Nazrul sang songs of the humanity in poetry, song or drama focusing the issue of non-communalism,” Dr Barman said.

Dr Nazrul Islam urged everyone to become inspired with the ideals and consciousness of the great rebel poet and work for development of the humanity.

Later, a colourful rally participated by members of BRUR unit Sangshad of BUSG and common students of the university, was brought out on the campus to end the celebrations.
