Pirganj declared free from hazardous child labour
TBT Report : Pirganj Upazila administration of Thakurgaon organized a ceremony to declare Pirganj Upazila free from hazardous child labour at the upazila auditorium on Wednesday. Pirganj Upazila Parisad Chairman and Adviser of Child Labour Monitoring Committee Alhaj Md. Akhtarul Islam presided over the function while Pirganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Shahriar Nojir was present as the chief guest and ESDO Executive Council Chairman Safiqul Islam was present as the guest of honor on the occasion.
Pirganj Thana Officer in charge Md. Abdul Latif Sheikh, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md. Abdul Al Arafat, Upazila Women Affairs Officer and Member Secretary of Upazila Child Labour Monitoring Committee Jinnat Ara Yasmin and Senior Assistant Program Coordinator and Project Focal Person of ESDO Nirmal Majumder among others, were present as the special guest on the occasion.
ESDO’s Assistant Program Coordinator Shah Md Aminul Haque gave a welcome speech at the event under the supervision of Project Coordinator Mustafa Kamal.
Pirganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Shariar Najir said there is a difference between child labor and hazardous child labour. Follow-ups of those freed from hazardous child labor today. Today’s announcement marks a milestone, but everyone needs to be aware so that they don’t get involved in risky child labor again.
In addition, ESDO is implementing CLMS project in five upazilas of Thakurgaon district with the help of the International Labour Organization (ILO).
The main aim of which is to free Thakurgaon district from hazardous child labour. In the first phase, 54 unions and 2 municipalities have been declared free from hazardous child labour. At this stage, Baliadangi and Pirganj upazilas were declared among the upazilas. The remaining three upazilas will be announced gradually.
