7-day long “International Indian Ocean Expedition” begins

Department of Oceanography and International Center for Ocean Governance of University of Dhaka and Bangladesh Navy are jointly organizing and conducting a 7 day long “International Indian Ocean Expedition (IIOE)-II” from Bangladesh. One faculty member and 12 thesis students of the department of Oceanography are taking part in the expedition which began from 5th December (Wednesday) 2018. They will be on a cruise in the Bay of Bengal on an offshore petrol vessel BNS Kapatakhaya.
During the cruise the participants will collect water sample using Niskin Sampler (for Nutrients, Chlorophyll, Trace metal analysis and microbial analysis), perform phytoplankton and zooplankton using plankton nets, collect sediment samples benthic foraminifera, trace elements, rare earth elements, heavy minerals, TOC/TON etc, perform primary productivity measurement and take part in marine mammal survey.
