Police putting best efforts to eliminate evil forces: Kamal

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said apart from maintaining the law and order, police are continuously working to curb anti-liberation as well as evil forces, who are trying to create anarchy aiming at destabilizing democracy of the country.

“Police are working as one of the driving forces for implementation of the government’s ‘Vision-2041’,” he said urging all the members of the police to carry out their duties with utmost honesty and sincerity to achieve the goal.

“Members of the police force are always diligent and dedicated to protect life and property of the people,” he said.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal today made these remarks while speaking at the Police Memorial Day-2023 at a function held at Police Staff College as the chief guest.

“With the spirit of Liberation War, police force will be a companion in the march of democracy along with playing a role in building the ‘Golden Bangla’ (Sonar Bangla) as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman,” he said.

‘Police Memorial Day-2023’ is observed every year commemorating the brave policemen who sacrificed their lives while performing duties.

On the occasion of Police Memorial Day, family members of 121 policemen who sacrificed their lives on duty in 2022 were given recognition.
The Home Minister, Secretary of Security Division Aminul Islam Khan, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun and family members of the policemen, who sacrificed their lives, paid tribute to the brave policemen by placing wreaths at Police Memorial on the Police Staff College premises at Mirpur.

IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun presided over the programme. A well-armed police team gave an armed salute, while tuning the bugle.

Family members of the policemen who laid down their lives on duty were presented with mementos.

The IGP said, “Policemen do not hesitate to sacrifice their lives for the welfare of the country and people. A total of 121 policemen sacrificed their lives last year while performing their duty to maintain peace and order in the country,” he said.

Mamun said, “We have stood by you (countrymen) in the past and will continue to do so in the future. The Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has established the Police Welfare Trust providing Tk 5 crore as seed money. The Welfare Trust is also providing financial support to the families of the martyred policemen.”

A special prayer was offered praying salvation of departed the souls of the policemen who sacrificed their lives while on duty. One minute-silence was observed in honour of them.

Additional IGPs – Md Kamrul Ahsan, Md Monirul Islam, RAB Director General M Khurshid Hossain, Additional IGPs, heads of various units of Police and senior police officers were present in the ceremony.

Later, the Home Minister, Secretary and the IGP came down from the dais and presented mementos and gifts to the family members of the ten policemen who sacrificed their lives for the nation.
