Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today said Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is against the spirit of Amar Ekushey and the Liberation War.

“Those, who do not believe in the spirit of Ekhushey, do not believe in the spirit of the 1971 Liberation War,” he said in his opening speech at a discussion.

Bangladesh Awami League organised the discussion at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) in the capital on the occasion of Shaheed Dibash and International Mother Language Day.

AL President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina presided over the meeting.
Quader said the democracy of Bangladesh, the spirit of Ekushey and the values of the Liberation War are not safe under the reign of arson terrorists.

This evil force is the poison of communalism, while BNP is the sponsor of militancy in the country, he said.

The AL general secretary said the ideal of the independence is never safe under the rule of BNP and the lives of innocent people and the honor of decent women are not safe under the party too.

This evil force, which is poisonous one, would have to be resisted and defeated from the soil of Bangladesh, and those, who are against the spirit of Ekushey, must be resisted, he said.

Quader said the mother tongue – Bangla – has become the national language under the leadership of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman while it has been recognised in the world under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

He blamed that BNP insulted the mother tongue and made Shaheed Minar bloody.

The AL general secretary said the BNP leaders alleged that the AL is doing politics over Shaheed Minar but thing was that the AL men brought out a procession and went to Shaheed Minar early on Tuesday and they did not stand there for a minute.

“Where did we do cliquism? Doesn’t BNP remember that the then Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, during the BNP’s regime, went up to the main altar to place flowers? Who insulted the Shaheed Minar?” he questioned.

Claiming that the BNP is the trusted resort to arson terrorists, terrorism and militants in Bangladesh, the AL general secretary said AL President Sheikh Hasina went to place flowers at Savar National Memorial during the BNP’s regime but she had to return by laying flowers in any way.

Sheikh Hasina had to face obstacles in every where she went, he said.

Quader claimed that BNP wants to erase the history through cliquism.

“We have protected the dignity of our mother tongue but you (BNP) have insulted the mother tongue. You make the Shaheed Minar bloody,” he said.
