Young entrepreneur Obidur Rahman has developed a tech-enabled system to support farmers with the Internet of Things (IoT) for accuracy in irrigation by automating water management system.
He researched for six months to develop the device under his venture TechGarlic Limited and conducted a demo at the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) in Brahmanbaria. Following the success of this technology-enabled solution, plans are being developed to solve farmers’ irrigation problems with 34 more pumps (irrigators).

Mohammad Obidur Rahman, better known as Obayed, hails from Chattogram. He had been through hardship since the death of his father on duty for the Bangladesh Police. Obayed started online freelancing to manage all expenses including tuition fees for university. After graduating in business administration, he joined Grameenphone in 2010.
In 2012, Obayed started analysing the database of Grameenphone Facebook users to learn user experience and behaviour on social media. Meanwhile, Obayed became very interested in data analysis. At some point, he left this job and joined Maverick Studios as a data analyst. Later in 2014, he founded the Robi Listening Center. Using this experience, the young talent continued innovations with building data driven solutions. Currently acting as CEO in
TechGarlic which aims to solve the problems of underprivileged people through machine learning with the help of information technology. This startup started at the beginning of this year. Its objective is to provide technology-based solutions to the problems of working people who need the benefits of various technological innovations. The IoT device developed to solve farmers’ irrigation problems, will not only solve farmers’ water problems, but based on the information obtained from it, demand-supply coordination, emergency decision-making, and proper water distribution can be done with the help of artificial intelligence.
The farmer can easily get his required water directly from the pump by using a smart card. The entire process can be monitored and controlled through a central system. They can obtain such information from this device. TechGarlic was recently named Facebook’s official data partner, which is a great deal for any data-driven venture.
