Pinky Akter: Women Journalists Network Bangladesh (WJNB) in partnership with the High Commission of Canada in Bangladesh organised a day long workshop to sensitize journalists about digital safety and digital hygiene at the National Press Club today, Tuesday, October 11, 2022.

After the workshop a certificate giving ceremony was held where High Commissioner of Canada to Bangladesh Dr. Lilly Nicholls congratulated the participants. She remarked “Democratic societies need a new vision for the Digital Age to ensure that digital technologies strengthen democratic institutions and the resilience of civil society, empower civic engagement, and enable the work of human rights defenders, public participation and the open and free exchange of ideas.”

The High Commissioner also wished all a Happy International Girl Child Day!

Dr. Kaberi Gayen, Professor, Mass Communication and Journalism Department of the University of Dhaka, Mr. Tanvir Hassan Zoha, Cyber Security Analyst, Mr. Golam Kibria, journalist and media trainer and Ms. Angur Nahar Monty, journalist and coordinator, WJNB conducted the workshop as resource persons.

They discussed digital safety and security online and offline, safety and security for journalists, especially for women journalists in real life and cyber world ensuring secured data, devices and communications and countering misinformation and disinformation.

Around 12 journalists from renowned newspaper, online portals and TV channels and social media influencers participated in the workshop. They shared their experiences, how they face harassments in digital platform and the negative impact of hate speeches, and talked about the role of media and individual journalists in constructive reporting.
