Tofazzal Liton : Activist for 25 years and Journalism of 12 years

Md. Tofazzal Hossain is known as Tofazzal Liton in Bengali society all over the world. He has been working as a social activist for more than two decades in Bangladesh and New York. He traveled to Scotland and England as a selected activist from Bangladesh at the invitation of the British government. He has been doing professional journalism for a long time. As a journalist, he reported on the United Nations General Session and the American National Election in the national newspaper of Bangladesh. Tofazzal Liton is a graduate and post graduate in social work, has written stage and TV plays. He is a listed actor of Bangladesh Television. Acted in several TV dramas and movies.
Tofazzal Liton joined the renowned drama group Jeeban Sanket in 1997 while studying in seventh standard at Habiganj Government High School. He joined Bangladesh Red Crescent Society, We are the children of freedom fighters, Habiganj Science Club and Debating Parishad, Habiganj Sahitya Parishad and other social and cultural organizations and has done various public awareness activities.
Rajshahi University in 2004 after getting admission in social work, he joined University Theater Rajshahi. Like Jeeban Sanket theater group, he continued the theater movement from there as well. Sometimes on the stage, sometimes marching in the streets, spoke about the rights of people as a cultural activist. In 2006, he wrote a research stage play called Paital. It is the first full-length stage play about tea workers in Bangladesh. This stage play was staged on July 27, 2007 at the National Theater at the invitation and funding of Bangladesh Group Theater Federation.
His poetry was first published in 1999 in Bangladesh Shishu Academy’s monthly magazine ‘Shishu’. Since then he has been writing poems, short stories and dramas. He was the member secretary of daily Jugantar newspaper reader’s organization Swajan Samabesh from 2005-2006. From 2007-2008, he was the convenor of daily Samakal magazine’ readers’ organization Suhrid Samabesh. He has done public welfare and public awareness works from these social organizations.
In 2008, the British Council selected three boys and six girls social activists from across Bangladesh to participate in the Global Exchange Programme. Tofazzal Liton is one of them. He traveled to Scotland and England at the invitation of the British government to participate in this six-month program. Global exchange between Bangladesh and Britain ended in 2009.
Tofazzal Liton joined professional journalism in 2010 through Banglanews24 as a reporter. Along with journalism, he has acted in TV dramas and movies and various social activities. In 2013, he was closely involved in Ganajagoron Moncho movement across the country to demand Punishment for war criminals. There he directed a road drama called Tharo written by Kar Geas Uddin Selim.
He worked as a sub-editor at bdnews24.com until he came to the United States on March 26, 2013. Come to New York and join in speaking out for people’s rights around the world. To implement non-communal spirit and talk about people’s rights, they are constantly doing human chain, lectures and seminars. In 2019, the biggest Pahela Baisakh celebration of the Bengali community in New York was held under the leadership of Tofazzal Liton.
Tofazzal Liton covered the United Nations General Assembly as a Protham Alo North American journalist in 2017 and 2018. He covered the American National Election as New York correspondent of Daily Samakal. He wrote opinions and various news on New York local English newspepar Politics NY, Daily Prothom Alo and Daily Jugantor. Currently, he is working as the New York representative of Ekhon Television, the first business television in Bangladesh, Daily Samakal’s New York correspondent and JagoNews24. com’s US correspondent.
Tofazzal Liton was born on 25 November 1985 in Chunarghat Upazila of Habiganj District. His father, a heroic freedom fighter, Anwar Hossain is a poet. Mother Must. Ayesha Khatun tremendous homemaker.
