Dwayne Johnson has shared a new peek at his Black Adam character ahead of the trailer debut. Black Adam is directed by Jaume Collet-Serra (Jungle Cruise) and stars Johnson as the titular anti-hero/villain with Pierce Brosnan as Dr. Fate, Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone, and Sarah Shahi as Isis. The film is currently undergoing reshoots to hit its October 21, 2022 release date after a number of delays due to the pandemic.
Black Adam marks Johnson’s first foray into the superhero genre, which has been a long time coming for the actor. The character is typically known as a villain, his origin being a corrupted Egyptian predecessor to Captain Marvel aka Shazam!, having similar powers that are derived from ancient Egyptian gods. The character has been reinvented throughout the years to be more of an anti-hero than villain, teaming up with other DC superheroes, particularly the JSA, while simultaneously remaining as a character out for himself.
Johnson revealed a new image of his incarnation of Black Adam, showing off his costumed superhero looking strong and angry in what appears to be a clipped portion of a larger image. The actor once again confirmed the release of the new trailer alongside the image, which is set for June 8. Johnson has shared a number of Black Adam BTS images from reshoots of late, hyping the trailer, as well as the film itself, which will be a big swing for the actor.
Johnson’s last feature was Red Notice with Ryan Reynolds and Gal Gadot, which broke a number of records for Netflix and helped keep his momentum up as he worked toward the release of Black Adam.
