SUST student murder: Knife used in killing, victim’s mobile phone recovered

Police on Wednesday recovered the knife used in the murder of Bulbul Ahmed, a student of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) and his mobile phone set at Tilagaon near the university campus in Sylhet.

The knife and the mobile phone set were recovered from the house of Kamrul Hossain, 30, a mason of the area who was detained in connection with the murder.

Kamrul also confessed to his involvement in the murder, Azbahar Ali Sheikh, deputy commissioner of Sylhet Metropolitan Police.

Based on his information, police recovered the knife and the mobile phone after conducting drive at Kamrul’s house around 11am, he added.

So far, five people have been detained, said Azbahar.

“Investigation is still going on. After  investigation, those who are involved will be shown arrested in this case. So, the total number of arrests cannot be said now.”

Police detained three people in connection with the murder on Monday and Tuesday.

The detainees were Abul Hossain, Kamrul Hossain and Md Hassan, all are resident of Tillagaon area.

“After interrogating them separately, we received important information,” said the deputy commissioner.

He, however, did not say anything about the identities of other detainees.

The deceased, Bulbul Ahmed, was a third-year student of the Public Administration department of the university.

On Monday night, a case was filed at Jalalabad police station over the murder.

According to the case statement, Bulbul, along with his friends, went to the New Zealand area, adjacent to Shaheed Minar, on the campus that afternoon.

At one stage, his friends rescued him as he was allegedly stabbed by muggers.

Bulbul was first rushed to the university medical centre and later shifted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College and Hospital where on-duty doctor Kaniz Fatema declared him dead around 7.45pm.

Besides, the authorities concerned of SUST formed a five-member probe body to look into the death .
