It’s quite pleasing to take a walk in the rain during monsoon, but the damage that rain water does to our hair is just undeniable. Those luscious locks don’t stay much lush during this particular time of the year. The increased level of moisture in the air makes hair dry and unmanageable. If you have noticed this, well, we can help you save your hair with some cost-effective tips.

It all starts with the right diet. To keep the monsoon blues away while providing nourishment to your hair, start a protein-rich diet. We recommend food like dairy, walnuts, eggs and wholegrain and vegetables, as these will do a lot of good to your hair.

We know that it’s tempting to style your hair with heat, but during this season it is best to avoid it. The air outside will be unpleasantly humid, and any hair style you do will pretty soon get damp and ruined when you go outside. Play it safe, and avoid the heating tools in monsoon altogether.

Also, make sure that you take a shower if you get drenched in the rain. Rain water contains a lot of chemicals and pollutants. If rain water dries on your hair, it will lead to clogged hair follicles. This will lead to hair fall, as well as skin problems.

When you are washing your hair, use mild shampoo so that the distressed hair strands do not become even harsher due to a shampoo with strong chemicals.

However, these are just some preventive steps. If the damage has already happened, then you need to use some hair remedies. Fortunately, there are some great hair solutions that you can make right at home with all-natural ingredients, to strengthen the hair and bring back its natural shine.

A fenugreek-coconut oil hair solution is our first recommendation. Fenugreek seeds can block DHT hormones. These hormones are very disruptive to the growth of new hair. By blocking this hormone, fenugreek seeds reduce hair fall to a great extent. You can make a quick fenugreek-water solution and spray it onto your hair. Soak the fenugreek seeds in water for at least 12 hours, and then spray it on your hair. Another way is to add coconut oil to fenugreek seeds. For this you need to take some fenugreek seeds in a pan, add coconut oil and then warm it up slightly. Now massage the oil onto your scalp, and hair while its warm. Keep the oil in your hair overnight for maximum results, before you wash it off with a mild shampoo.

You can also use kalonji seeds for the same effect. Kalonji seeds contain chemicals called thymoquinone and nigellone, which actively reduce hair fall. The preparation for this kalonji-coconut oil treatment is very simple. Put a handful of kalonji seeds in coconut oil, warm it up, and then massage it onto your scalp and hair. When you’re done, pull your hair back into a shower cap, leave it on for 3-4 hours and then shampoo it off. This mixture of kalonji seeds and coconut oil will reduce hair fall, dullness, and the premature greying of hair.

Our third remedy is a very old but effective one. Onion juice is an excellent agent for hair re-growth. Onions are rich in Sulphur, which will boost blood supply in the scalp and strengthen the follicles to simultaneously reduce hair fall and promote hair growth. One way to use onion juice is to combine it with rose water, and then just massage it onto your hair. You can also put a few drops of coconut oil in the mixture as it will help to make the onion juice solution a bit more nourishing for the hair. Apply the mixture onto your hair, leave it on for an hour, then wash it off with a mild shampoo. Do this twice a week to get the best results for hair re-growth.

Another very helpful ingredient for hair fall reduction is a simple solution of amla juice and coconut oil. Amla contains tannins and calcium, which are two components that greatly stimulate hair growth. In order to make this solution, you have to extract the juice from a handful of amla. Into this pure amla juice, pour 3 tbsp of coconut oil, and then apply it thoroughly on your hair. Leave the mixture for 30 minutes on your scalp and then wash it off.

If you’re on a time crunch, you can simply massage some natural coconut oil onto your scalp and hair strands. Just 30 minutes of this oil massage every time before you shampoo your hair will do great things for your hair’s health. The change will be quite significant, as your hair will be more manageable and nourished during this humid time of the year.
