Scientific symposium on Optimal Hypertension Management in Older Patients

Hypertension is the leading cause of death worldwide. An estimated 1.28 billion people are hypertensive and two-third of them are living in low and middle-income countries.

In Bangladesh, almost 3 crore people are hypertensive. More than half of them are unaware and among those who are taking anti-hypertensive, 88% are uncontrolled. Number of older hypertensive patients are increasing day by day and almost half of the patients are aged above 55 years.

Therefore, management of hypertension is a very important issue. That is why Servier, a global leader in hypertension management, organized a scientific symposium on 10 June 2022, Friday at Hotel Radisson Blu Dhaka Water Garden focusing “Optimal Hypertension Management in Older Patients” on the occasion of launching first amlodipine and indapamide fixed dose combination in Bangladesh.

National Professor Brig. (Rtd) Abdul Malik, Founder & President, National Heart Foundation of Bangladesh was the chief guest of the session. The session was chaired by Prof. M. Nazrul Islam, Former Director of NICVD and UGC Professor of Cardiology, BSMMU, Dhaka and co-chaired by Prof. KMHS Sirajul Haque, Honorary Professor of Cardiology, Anwer Khan Modern Medical College, Dhaka.

The keynote speech was delivered by Prof. Neil Poulter, Professor of Preventive Cardiovascular Medicine, Imperial College London, United Kingdom. At the end vote of thanks was given by Mr. Tofazzal Hossain Bhuiyan, who is the Head of Operations of Servier Bangladesh Operations. More than 200 specialist Doctors attended the event. The symposium will create a huge impact on management of hypertensive patients in Bangladesh.
