Rangpur witnesses one more Covid-19 fatality

RANGPUR,  – Rangpur division witnessed one more Covid-19 fatality during the last 24 hours ending at 8 am today amid a deteriorating pandemic situation in recent weeks.

Health officials said the number of Covid-19 positive cases is hastily rising in the division where community transmission of the lethal virus continues during the last more than two weeks.

“With the one more fatality reported from Rangpur district, the number of casualties reached 1,255 in the division,” Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Abu Md. Zakirul Islam Lenin told BSS this afternoon.

The district-wise breakup of the 1,255 fatalities currently stands at 295 in Rangpur, 81 in Panchagarh, 89 in Nilphamari, 69 each in Lalmonirhat and Kurigram, 256 in Thakurgaon, 333 in Dinajpur and 63 in Gaibandha of the division.

The average casualty rate stands at 2.15 percent in the division.

Meanwhile, 138 fresh Covid-19 cases were diagnosed on Friday after testing 543 samples at 25.41 percent positivity rate in the division.

Earlier, the daily Covid-19 positivity rates were 46.45 percent on Thursday, 45 percent on Wednesday, 39.72 percent on Tuesday, 35.80 percent on Monday and 43.57 percent on Sunday last in the division.

“With the diagnosis of 138 fresh Covid-19 cases on Friday, the total number of infected patients reached 58,489 in Rangpur division,” Dr. Islam said.

The district-wise break up of total 58,489 patients include 13,256 of Rangpur, 3,983 Panchagarh, 4,748 of Nilphamari, 2,898 of Lalmonirhat, 4,732 of Kurigram, 8,028 of Thakurgaon, 15,761 of Dinajpur and 5,083 of Gaibandha in the division.

Since the outbreak of the pandemic, a total of 3,17,121 collected samples were tested till Friday, and of them, 58,489 were found Covid-19 positive with an average positivity rate of 18.44 percent in the division.

At the same time, the number of healed Covid-19 patients reached 54,762 in all eight districts of Rangpur division with the recovery of 15 more patients on Friday.

The average recovery rate currently stands at 93.63 percent.

“Earlier, the average recovery rate of Covid-19 patients reached 97.12 percent on January 14 last in the division and the same sharply dropped by 3.49 percent in only 14 days to 93.63 percent,” Dr. Islam said.

Among the total 58,489 patients, 78 are under treatments at isolation units, including 14 critical patients at ICU beds and nine at High Dependency Unit beds, after recovery of 54,762 patients and 1,255 deaths while 2,394 are remaining in home isolation.

“Meanwhile, the number of citizens who got the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine rose to 1,06,74,833 and among them, 63,80,023 got the second dose and 1,47,206 got the booster dose till Friday in the division,” Dr Islam added.

Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. Bimal Chandra Roy said the pandemic situation is again deteriorating during the last more than two weeks in Rangpur division.

“The number of Covid-19 cases continues increasing in the division and all should abide by the health directives to prevent further community spread of the lethal virus,” he said.
