CHATTOGRAM,  – Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today said now the situation of BNP is like that when someone loses way in the ocean and he tries to see light to survive. “I hope that BNP would be able to get out from the tunnel if they can see the light inside the tunnel,” he added.

Dr Hasan, also joint general secretary of Awami League (AL), said this as chief guest after the inaugural function of CMSME Trade Fair-2022 organized by Chattogram Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CWCCI) held this evening at city’s Shaheed Sheikh Russell Park. Replying to a query of journalist about BNP leader Major (Retd) Hafiz’s comment, the minister said, “BNP has been watching the light from inside the tunnel for several years ago. I hope that they will be able to get out of the tunnel, not just see the light.”

He also hopes that BNP will become a true political party and will play a role to consolidate democracy in the country. Replying to another query of BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir that the government is running the country depending on police and police is the only power of the government, Dr Hasan Mahmud said AL never believes in political conspiracy, rather BNP believes in the politics of arms. BNP’s founder Ziaur Rahman had captured power through firearms and blood of people, said Hasan.

“Begum Khaleda Zia came to the state power through conspiracy and survived through conspiracy. Awami League does not believe in that,” he said. He said that the country’s people are the strength of AL as historical evidence shows that AL has always been in state power with the verdict of country’s people. “The independence of the country came under the leadership of Bangabandhu and AL.

All the achievements of the country have been achieved under the leadership of Bangladesh AL. Bangladesh is sitting on the seat of dignity today with the dynamic leadership of Bangabandhu daughter Sheikh Hasina,” he said. Earlier, at the inaugural function of the trade fair the broadcasting minister said that Sheikh Hasina, daughter of Bangabandhu, is a woman.

The way through which the people of the country have come forward in the struggle for the rights of the people by taking life in her hand is an example not only in the history of the country, but also in the history of the world. When the premier recently visited India and met Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi, she hugged Sheikh Hasina and said, “You are an inspiration of my life.” Lauding the role of women in moving the country forward, Dr Hasan said people never imagined that a woman could become DC, SP or UNO before 10 years.

“Women are now working as the ambassadors, the judges of the appellate division in the Supreme Court and secretaries in the government. Women are moving forward holding the hand of Sheikh Hasina. Eighty percent of primary school teachers are female. At least 70 percent work of the world has been done by the women,” he added. He said Bangladesh has attained remarkable progress in many socio-economic indexes, including human development. “Bangladesh has surpassed Pakistan in all indicators including per capita income, average life expectancy and foreign exchange reserve.

It has been possible only for the exceptional leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,” he added. City Mayor Rezaul Karim Chowdhury, President of Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry Mahbubul Alam and Bangladesh Rubber Board Chairman Syeda Sarwar Jahan spoke on the occasion as special guests. Entrepreneurs Nuran Fatima, Ali Saber and Chairman of CMSME Trade Fair-2022 Rekha Alam Chowdhury, among others, attended the function.
