DU signs MOU with NMEFC of China

To conduct joint oceanographic research a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been signed between the University of Dhaka (DU) and the National Marine Environmental Forecasting Center (NMEFC) under the Ministry of Natural Resources of People’s Republic of China.

A virtual ceremony was held on the occasion at the Professor Abdul Matin Chowdhury Virtual Classroom at the heart of Dhaka University. On behalf of DU, Professor Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, the treasurer of the university signed on the document. On the other hand, Yu Fujiang, the Director General signed the document from NMEFC’s standpoint.

As per the MOU, the two institutions will now collaborate on oceanographic research, conduct seminars, symposiums, conferences, workshops, and training programs. Besides, they will participate in knowledge sharing and capacity building in the sphere of oceanographic modeling, forecasting, disaster management, climate change, environmental risk mitigation and reduction. Moreover, there will be regular exchange of young scholars, teachers, researchers, and students between the organizations from now on.

The MOU signing ceremony is graced by the presence of the Vice Chancellor (VC), Professor Dr. Md Akhtaruzzaman. The VC thanked the NMEFC’s to sign the MOU with the university. He is hopeful that through this collaboration the bilateral relationship between Bangladesh and China will get strengthened. It will also help Bangladesh to achieve the 2030 SDG targets, he added.

Professor Dr. Md. Kawser Ahmed from the Planning Commission of the Government of Bangladesh moderated the conversation while Professor Dr. ASM Maksud Kamal (Pro Vice Chancellor-Academic), Jobaer Alam, the Chairman of the Department of Oceanography, and Dr. Towhida Rashid, the Chairman of the Department of Metallurgy were present among others.
